Wrapping up the VCMP Labor Day Weekend

Here are my last 2 cards for the OWH Stars and Stamps VCMP. I didn't get to play along with 2 of the challenges because I didn't have the required supplies. This card is for challenge #7 where Marilyn asked us to make an autumn-themed card using an OWH sketch. I chose sketch#123, one of my favorite all-time go-to sketches and made a thankful for you card. The papers are remnants of an older Autumn paper pad, and I added some argyle embossing along with a SNSS sentiment. The leaves were done with SB dies and sponged with lots of ranger inks, while the acorns were embossed with gold and tied up with some copper cording.

Here's my card for the final challenge #9, which is to use the negative portion of a punch or die on your card. I die cut this tree, and inserted a piece of brown card stock beneath the leftover negative, and then added some leaves with a $1 G-Studio stamp set in autumn colors. The sentiment is from SU!, and the dsp is from the Autumn Spice paper pack by Lilybeedesigns. The green cardstock base was from my stash along with the snippet of ribbon.

Sorry for the bad photos - it's been raining here all day and there's no natural light available! Click the photos to make larger and they may give you a better view?

This is my 2nd post today, so thanks for coming back, and I hope you're having a wonderful Monday!

OWH VCMP for Labor Day Weekend, continued

Continuing with the VCMP at the Stars and Stamps blog this weekend, here's my card for challenge #6. Sybrina asked us to make cards for kids and use the tic-tac-toe grid she has posted on her blog. I chose the middle row from top to bottom and used coloring/punny sentiment/things with 4 legs. Well this little dinosaur has 4 limbs, so hopefully they'll count as legs :) I stamped this image at a friend's house, so I don't know who makes it, but I used scraps of red and green designer paper, card stock and ribbons.

Challenge #8 found here is to use a bee image with a creative bee sentiment.
I also stamped this cute little bee at my friend's house, and I went with the honeycomb theme and sentiment. that's honeycomb embossing done with 2 different folders, and hand-cut pieces adhered to the centers of the horizontal strip. Ribbon was a gift from an online store that came with an order, and I added some black and yellow gemstones from Pizzazz Aplenty.

That's all I have for today, but I hope to finish a couple more of the challenges during the coming week. Happy Labor Day!

ETA: These images are by The Cat's Pajamas (thanks Mary Anne)

OWH Labor Day VCMP (continued)

Here's my card for the OWH Stars and Stamps Labor Day VCMP challenge #4 where Annette gave us a great sketch challenge to create a love-themed card. I pulled out the Bo Bunny Crush paper pad, along with red, black & pink card stock and put this together. Embossing was done with a Darice folder, and the heart was done with SU! hearts a-flutter dies, matching stamps and punch. The tiny black hearts were negatives from a SNSS hearts border die. The red heart was stamped with "sweet little you" in versamark and embossed with silver ep.

Here is this week's OWH Stars and Stamps sketch challenge #188. All paper and cardstock is by SU! along with their "A Round Array" stamp set (w/coordinating 7/8" scalloped punch) as well as "Label Love" stamp set (w/coodinating Artisan label punch.) The embossing was done with a Cuttlebug Decorative Tile ef which closely matches the pattern in the smallest banner, and I adhered a tiny twine bow with glossy accents. The colors are gumball green, midnight muse, summer starfruit, and very vanilla.

And since it's the first day of September, here's Heidi's calendar page! I just love each month of these beautiful calendars she's made for me, and I'll hate to see the year end after receiving this treasured gift for Christmas last year!

Here's a close-up where you can see the fabulous paper weaving she's done with the background! And that mason jar with the flowers is fabulous too! They look very much like the official flower of September too - the aster! Thanks again Heidi, for the gift that keeps on giving! You're such a sweet and very creative friend - {{hugs}}

And that's all I have for now, but I may be playing along with more challenges as they're revealed today, so stay tuned! I hope you're enjoying your Labor Day weekend!

OWH Labor Day VCMP

There's a large Virtual Card Making Party going on this weekend over at the Stars and Stamps blog. Challenges will be posted every few hours throughout Saturday & Sunday. Challenge #1 is a sketch that Nancy is hosting on her blog. I dug into an old SU! paper pad for these Sahara Sand squares of dsp. I added a Hero Arts sentiment and some negative punch-outs from border dies just to compliment the black color with a few tiny accents. I added a little faux stitching for the final touch, and then moved onto challenge #2.

Diane is hosting a fun challenge for #2, and that challenge is to use 3 things on our cards that represent the letters for O.W.H. Orange, Web (spider) and/or the color White, and Halloween is what I chose. The image is by House Mouse, and the pumpkin border was done with an EK punch. The spider web embossing was done with a SU! ef and sanded. The sentiment panel was done with a word window punch, and the ends of the black panel were done with the SU! Mosaic punch. I added some piercing and faux stitching just for fun, and finally added some orange bling from Pizzazz Aplenty.

That's going to do it for me for this day, but hopefully I'll be able to finish a few more challenges tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by!

Baby Ciara

I used a cute, colored free digi made by Misty for the OWH VCMP, and it's called Baby Ciara. This card is for Misty's OWH VCMP challenge 2 which is "all creatures great and small; cards for kids." I used papers from the DCWV neutrals stack, and added a SB grommet tag with a SU! sentiment. The ribbon was from my stash and attached with a brad.

I printed 2 images, and made a 2nd card for the Freshly Made Sketch challenge 7.

For this card, I fussy cut baby Ciara and popped the image on dimensionals on a top note die cut. The background embossing was done with a Cuttlebug decorative tiles ef, and the sentiment was computer generated and layered on SU word window and fancy label punches. All dsp is from the DCWV Neutrals stack. Both cards will be heading to OWH in my next box, and I'm sure this cute puppy will delight the child who receives it. Who doesn't like puppies?!

Thanks for stopping by today and I wish you a wonderful weekend! I'm stoked as NASCAR begins it's 2013 season with the Daytona 500 tomorrow! Woot!

OWH President's Day VCMP continues...

I've managed to complete all of the challenges for the OWH Stars and Stamps VCMP for president's day weekend! Whee!!
This card is for challenge 6 where Linda's challenge is "things with wheels."
This truck certainly has wheels, and I've made this card for a friend who recently turned 85. Stamps by Tim Holtz.

Challenge 7 is brought to us by Jen and she's given us a "caffeine challenge." Whenever I think of coffee or hot chocolate, Cocoa mouse comes to mind, so I used this SNSS digi image along with some papers from MME the bright side and put this card together.

Challenge #8 is being hosted by Donna, and she wants us to use Washi Tape on our cards. I only have 2 rolls of washi tape and they're red & black, and identical in design, so I opted to use just one color and wrapped it around a piece of cardstock to create a border. The flower was done with a SU! punch, and the sentiment is from Unity.

Challenge #9 is "all white or cream with 3 layers", and it's hosted by Sharon. I used the MB Vivienne and Darla butterfly dies, adding a pearl paper for the top layer. Background embossing was done with a HA flourishes ef, and the sentiment panel was done with an EK punch and a SU! lg oval punch and square lattice ef. I added some round and teardrop shaped pearls for accents to the butterfly and sentiment panel, and here's a close up of that detail...

Last but not least is challenge #10 which is to "glitz and glam it up without glitter" and Kaylee is our host. Here's my card for the final challenge in this VCMP.

I used a Saturated Canary image for this, coloring with Copics and adding some red gemstones to the top and bottom of the card for bling. She's already glammed up in that gorgeous gown, so bling seemed to be the perfect embellishment to this image!

Whew! Eleven challenges (including the sketch challenge) in 2 days! I'm glad I was able to complete them all, but I have a bathroom that's calling my name to be cleaned, so it's time to catch up on some much-needed housework!
Thanks for sticking with me for these long posts, and I wish you a wonderful week ahead!

OWH President's day VCMP Weekend

There's a President's day weekend Virtual Card Making Party going on over at the Stars and Stamps blog this weekend that includes 10 challenges. I'm going to try to finish them all, along with today's sketch challenge #160 that you see pictured above.

Here's my sketch card #160 in good old red, white, and blue and I used an Impression Obsession stamp.

Challenge 1 is hosted by Erika, and she asks us to "zig-zag" our cards. I used a HA chevron ef, as well as made my own zig-zag with scraps of aqua and black PTI dsp. I added a strip of silver stickers to the center, and a HA sentiment.

Challenge 2 is hosted by Misty, and she challenges us to make cards for kids using "critters." I guess a pink flamingo can be considered a critter? I used a digital image by LoubyLoo and colored it with neon Copics, adding some stickles to the cap and a MS fancy border. This bird with sneakers cracks me up every time I see it :)

Ok, call the challenge police because I cheated big-time on this 3rd challenge :) Beth challenged us to use selective embossing and posted a great tutorial, but I took a shortcut and just embossed with a scor-pal and stamped within the scored lines. I wanted to make a CAS card, so I went with what I had time to create and just made a simple classic thank-you card.

The 4th challenge is hosted by Yvonne and she asks us to use "things with wings." I used this MB butterfly and some pale plum and vanilla cardstock and made a birthday card. That's actually a piece of dsp I used for the background, but after embossing it, it looks almost two-tone in color. I added a SB grommet tag sentiment with a couple gemstones on top of a border done with a MS lattice punch.

Challenge 5 is hosted by Leslie, and she gave us this OWH sketch and challenged us to do a "disappearing act" by using a full sheet of 12x12 dsp to make 6 cards. This is a great way to dig into that long-forgotten stash of dsp you have lying around. Don't deny it - I know you do!! I know I'm not the only one who hoards dsp :)

I used a sheet of K&Co dsp along with some blush blossom and berry sorbet card stock to make my cards. I used a SU! blossom punch along with a SU! fancy label punch and a SU! 3 blossom punch to make the flowers. The patterns were very busy, so I used a big, bold sentiment on white to tone things down a little bit. I stamped the "Hello" in early espresso ink. Embossing was done with a CB decorative tile ef, and I used different scraps of coordinating dsp for the flower "petals" that were in the pack of dsp.

Here are all six cards - and the Saturday challenges are done.....whew! There are 5 more challenges today that I hope to work on at some point today or tomorrow.

Happy President's day weekend everyone! I hope you all do something fun if you don't have to work! TC and thanks for checking in :)
