A Hero's Thank You

This is one of several "any hero" thank-you cards I'm enclosing in my final box of cards heading to OWH before they close. I used a retired SU! image and sentiment for this, embossing the image on kraft with gold embossing powder. I drew lines around the Nestabilities Labels 2 die before cutting the image, and then colored with Copics. I put it on a dark green piece of cardstock, and punched 3 gold stars using a SU! mini star punch. The banner was done with SU! framelits and I drew around that with a fine black marker before cutting - just like the image panel. I don't anticipate being able to use this image too often after OWH closes, so I'm making cards to thank our heroes.

I'm sharing this with the OWH ODBD July challenge to make "thank-you" cards for our heroes.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thanks for stopping by.

Catching up with OWH challenges

I've been playing catch-up with the OWH challenges this month because we've had a wedding, birthdays, graduation parties and all sorts of events to keep us busy. Here's my take on the OWH sketch challenge #255. I made a two minions using the SU! owl punch, and stacked them on top of one another, adding an Inky Antics sentiment and a couple of punched hearts. The dsp is Echo Park and I matted with daffodil yellow, red and navy.

                                            sketch 255

Here's my card for the OWH June ODBD challenge which is to make "missing you" cards. I used a free digital image that was offered several years ago through the OWH website and colored it with Copics. Using Lil Inker stitched rectangle dies, I cut the image panel, the cardstock, and dsp panels too. I added a Casual Fridays sentiment for the final touch.

Thanks for taking a few minutes to stop by today, it's always great to have you! Happy Monday everyone!

Say Cheese!

I find myself playing with the yellow, black & white color combination a lot lately, so I made another card with those colors again today.
This is a House Mouse image I've had in my box of stamped images for a long time, so I decided it was time to use it, and I lightly colored it with Copics. I added an embossed background and vertical strip; both done with an Anna Griffin/Cuttlebug Matelasse ef set. The sentiment is from CTMH and I hand-cut the sentiment panel. The final touch was to add some black & white gingham ribbon from my stash.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

House Mouse HMFMC#193 - "dotty for dots" (the embossing has lots of tiny dots in the pattern)

OWH May ODBD Challenge - use embossing

Words2ScrapBy#20 - "say cheese" (I took this challenge literally as it's national photography month)

Thanks for stopping by and make it a great day whatever you're doing!

Masculine Birthday

Today's creation was made for the OWH ODBD April challenge which is to make a masculine card. I'm using some beautiful metallic papers from the Paper Co. in gunmetal and pewter colors. The photo didn't capture the subtle shimmer, but it's just elegant. I embossed the grey panel with a CB ef, and the narrow strip was done with with one of those strip ef's in my stash. The sentiment is from MFP, done in basic grey, and the bird was done with an IO sea birds set in white. This was very quick and easy to put together so I'm making a few more for my next OWH box.
If there are 50 entries in this challenge, ODBD will donate the shipping costs for 2 boxes of cards to our heroes, so I always make sure to enter a card every month.

Thanks for stopping by and make it a great weekend! The gloomies are finally gone here in PA today and the sun is shining again. Yay!!

March ODBD challenge for OWH

The ODBD March challenge for OWH is to make the sentiment the focus of our card. I made 3 cards using a SU! hexagon ef, and making use of lots of snippets. I emboss the snippets with the same ef, and snip them right along the embossed edge and then use a drop or two of glue to place them into the embossed card stock in random patterns. This large sentiment stamp is by Impression Obsession. I used a Lil Inker stitched rectangle die to cut it, and matted it with GinaK Blue Raspberry card stock. The snipped hexes are all black and white patterns while the card base is Smoky Slate.

Here's the red version, with a black card base & mat.

I did this one a little differently. I used 1 dsp for the snippets, adding punched stars on some hexes, and stamping smoky slate splattered spots on others with a stick stamp by Judith. I think this is my favorite of the 3, using PTI Soft stone cardstock for the embossed and main panels.

I'll be sharing these cards over at the Snippets Playground #167 which also features a beautiful card made by Di featuring this hexagon snippet technique!

Thanks for stopping by and make it a great day today!

Hello

The OWH ODBD February challenge is "animals" so I pulled out a very old stamped image from my stash and colored him with Copics. I'm not sure but I think the image is High Hopes. I added a black frame done with an old retired SU! punch, and used a Lil Inker stitched rectangle on the orange card base. The sentiment is from Studio G. If there are 50 entries in this challenge, ODBD will sponsor the donation of two boxes of cards to our heroes, so I always play along. Every little bit helps!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week ahead!

A Card for a Hero

I love this retired stamped image from SU! that makes the greatest hero cards for OWH. I stamped the image in Versamark, then heat-embossed it with gold ep. I used some pale shades of blue and red Copic color on the flag, and left the rest of it uncolored. I used a crafter's workshop tiny dots stencil with some Antique Linen ink, masking the embossed image to keep it clean. I sponged the edges with more antique linen ink, and added some gold-embossed die cut letters, a hashtag, and a star. It's all done on a kraft card base.

I'm entering this into the following challenges:

January ODBD challenge for OWH - make a Hero card for a hero.

Words2ScrapBy#13 - use a hashtag (you choose the word (s)

Simon Says Wednesday Challenge - It's a Guy Thing - create something for the men

I wish I could have taken a better photo, but this is the best I could come up with after many tries.

Thanks for stopping by and make it a great week ahead!

You Color My World

I recently received this adorable Lawn Fawn stamp set free with an order, and I could hardly wait to make a card with it! I decided to make a couple cards for kids, and played along with the OWH December ODBD challenge to use primary colors of red, blue, and yellow. The stitched panels were done with Lil Inker dies and I added some red & white twine to finish this simple card. I liked it so much I made another one...

For this one, I just switched to an orange cardstock panel with a piece of ribbon. These were so easy to put together, so I'll be making many more for cards for hospitalized kids I'm sure. Both images were colored with Copics.

Thanks for stopping by and have yourself a wonderful day! The sun made an appearance in PA today - yay!!

Precious Love

Here's a card for the November ODBD challenge at OWH which is "hearts." I used a SB heart-shaped die to cut the heart from red burlap and added a MS punched button, threaded with some thin black card stock. The sentiment words are from Technique Tuesday and I hand-cut the banner. This was quick and easy yet still carries a serious love message with that big red heart.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you remembered to set your clocks back last night! It's nice to wake up to sunshine in the morning again, but I'll be groaning when we have to eat dinner in the dark all too soon! Have a great day!

Winter Snowflakes

Here's a card I made for the OWH ODBD October challenge - make a card with snowflakes without it being a Christmas theme. I used this fun Darcie image, along with some favorite Echo Park Winter Wishes dsp. I colored it with Copics and added some pacific point blue cardstock. The snowflakes were done with a MS punch from the dsp and alternated on each panel I cut circles of the blue to use as centers for the snowflakes, which makes for flat mailing.

Thanks for stopping by and I wish you all a great day!

Lucky Birthday

Here's a birthday card I recently made with a Meljen free digital image. I colored it with Copics and used a snippet of cool carribean that was embossed with a CB birthday folder. I also embossed a narrow strip of red with a Darice tiny star ef. The sentiment stamps are from Casual Fridays and I added a couple extra punched stars to the printed stars. I added some dots and spots with Casual Friday stamps and stamps by Judith. The final touch was a few mini brads in assorted colors just for fun.

I'm entering this into the following challenges:

August ODBD challenge for OWH - stars

Shopping our Stash #162 - triple threat (I used at least 3 brads)

Snippet Playground #136 - use snippets

Thanks for stopping by and make it a great day!

Celebrating with Darnell

My friend Darnell over at djkardkreations is celebrating her 500 followers by holding her very first challenge! Yay Darnell, congrats on reaching such a milestone! She's gone and had this fancy badge made, and created a fun challenge for all of us to play along with right here. The challenge is "friendship" with anything goes and be sure and use some NBUS! That's the phrase Darnell coined which means "Never before used schtuff."

My card uses a NBUS dachshund image by Rubber Cottage that I bought at a craft expo recently and haven't gotten around to using until now. The Darice Paw Prints ef is also a recent expo purchase that hadn't been used until today (although I'd borrowed someone else's previously.) The sentiment is from a MFP stamp set I've used again and again, but somehow this sentiment never got inked until this card! The SNSS grassy die cuts were done with 2 shades of green and the card stock is soft sky and marina mist. We used to have a dachshund and I get suckered into buying dachshund images whenever I see them it seems. I just love the breed!

I'm also entering this into the OWH ODBD challenge for June to use die cuts or punches.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Brown, Pink, & Green

The challenge for this month's ODBD for OWH is to use the color combination of brown, pink, & green. The designer papers did most of the work for me with this card! I stamped the scroll work in dark brown espresso ink, and added the sentiment in a light pink color that matched the papers. The images are from the Morning Meadow set by SU! I used a former OWH sketch that really showcases those coordinating designer papers and creates a flat card for mailing.

I thought I'd toss this card into today's post since it was also done with brown, pink, & green colors. I used the new SNSS Cocoa Mouse get well stamp set, coloring with Copics and using pistachio pudding green for the background - embossing it with a cuttlebug ef. The border punch was done with a SU! punch; the striped panel was a scrap from my bin, and the image was colored with Copics, adding some fluorescent pink for the medicine in the bottle. I'm entering this into Pixie's Crafty Snippets Playground #84.

I'm still having issues with my computer freezing and not being able to open or close programs, but hopefully I'll be able to figure it all out. At least there are moments when I can get things done before it takes a fit! Those pc gremlins are always working hard to challenge me :)

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!
