Darnell is celebrating her 5th blogaversary with 3 NBUS challenges, and for her 10th NBUS challenge, she gave us the option of doing stamping with bubble wrap. I took her direction along with some inspiration from my friend Mary Anne and came up with this card.
I opened 3 new bottles of Distress reinkers (twisted citron, mermaid lagoon, wilted violet - my NBUS) and added drops randomly on a piece of bubble wrap. Next I added a few spun sugar, tumbled glass and dried marigold distress ink droplets and then smooshed the cardstock into the bubble wrap. I waited patiently impatiently for it to dry and finally hit it with my heat gun to hurry it along which created little puddles here and there.
I tried it first on some glossy cardstock and the heat gun turned that piece into one incredible blob/mess/disaster that cannot possibly be used for any card! LOL I'm too impatient to allow anything to dry overnight :)
I decided I was going to use the Tuesday Morning Sketch challenge #388 to create a card, and this is the card that resulted.
I used MB Vivienne and Darla butterfly dies, sponging the white cardstock with coordinating inks before cutting the top portion. The plum ribbon is from PTI and the IO die-cut buttons were cut with royal purple cardstock that matches the card base. I inked some snippets of white cardstock with marigold, citron and tumbled glass, weaving those tiny strips through the buttons to look like thread. The sentiment is from SU! teeny tiny wishes stamped in Concord Crush ink.

Carol, This is gorgeous. I love the colors of your butterfly. You and I are very much alike when it comes to patience. My thought is "What does that word mean"?

Now you have done it and I find it very interesting the looks that this technique gives to a card. I HAVE TO TRY THIS!!! Love the colors and of course that gorgeous butterfly! Love it!! I had completely forgotten the idea of using tiny strips of paper in place of thread and I'm going to have to try the bubble wrap technique also. ReplyDeleteThat's the benefit of the alcoholic inks, they dry almost instantly on glossy paper. I'm not sure I'd be very patient waiting overnight either, Carol! I really love the results you got with your method and the colors you used! And you really dressed it up perfectly using the sketch!!
