Using Scraps for a Background

Here's my card for this week's OWH midweek throwdown to make a "scrappy background." I've always enjoyed making these herringbone patterns with my leftover scraps, so this was fun to make! I pulled some red paper scraps and cut them into 1/4" strips, and after adhering them into the pattern I wanted, I embossed the whole piece with a SU! square lattice embossing folder. I added the Hero Arts sentiment, along with a punched border and some black satin ribbon. The black gemstones are from Pizzazz Aplenty.

    The way you pieced it all together and embossed it makes it look like fabric! What a fun card and a great way to use up all those scrappy bits.

    Great job with the herringbone. The papers all go nice together. I really like the sentiment. I went with red for my card also. I have to finish it and get it posted. Have a good night. We are getting ice and just about 1 inch of snow tonight/tomorrow morning. More fun!

    Oh my, I think I like _this_ one even better than that last one! It looks for all the world like an old wellworn quilt (one of my loves!). Even down to the delicate '1930-s' prints!! I can see how you might get the strips on a backing piece, but I'd not be able to create this pattern. One of these days, maybe you might do a tutorial? (of course, after you finish shoveling...TEE HEE). Clever girl to come up with the Blog-anitions. I'm going to change the page header to that if I have your permission. I'll credit you with that terminology! Maybe it will give a chuckle, and help some bewildered newbie that hasn't gotten all these wonderful terms. TFS & Hugs

    I am so loving this card Carol!! The colors and patterns you chose are just beautiful together. I love the herringbone pattern too, the punched border with the sentiment is just perfect too. That is my favorite SU embossing fold as it works so well on these types of cards making sure that all those snippets are held down good. I will have to lift this one from you. lol I hope you didn't get to much snow. We only got rain, thanking the good Lord for that! But it is cold!! 22 this morn with wind chills of 0. Hugs
