Fright Night!

The current Cards in Envy challenge is "Halloween - now that's scary!" Make your scariest Halloween card.

When I began making this, I realized I have no spooky, scary tree images to use. All I had was this willow tree image that I thought might work, so I stamped it off to one side, and that's how this card began. The main image is a retired SU! single stamp, and I heat-embossed it along with the tree and silhouette images on the right. I sponged ink colors of pale blue & lavender, along with eggplant and concord crush, masking off the "moon" and later sponging that with smoky slate. I outlined the raven image with a yellow spica glitter pen which you might be able to see better by clicking the photo. I added a die-cut bird about to land in the tree, along with a punched spider on the web. The web was done with a SU! embossing folder, and then enhanced with a picket fence distress marker. The twine is from Lawn Fawn. I usually do happy little Halloween cards that aren't scary, so this was quite different for me and was actually fun to make. I have no idea who to send it to, but I'm thinking of putting a silly little image inside that says "twick or tweet" just to take the edge off the spookiness :)

Thanks for checking in with me today and have a great Sunday!

Carol, this is beautiful and spooky at the same time. Love your description of how you put it together! Great colors and images. I vote for the fun saying inside too - I love to make spooky cards but I always try to balance them out on the inside. Hugz!

Your willow tree certainly fit the spooky bill on this nifty card. Adding your landing bird really enhanced the scary feel of that tree. Inspired addition of your Spica outline on the raven too. This is one great Halloween card, love those 'ghostly' colors you chose. TFS & Hugs

I always love seeing your cute Halloween cards so this is quite different from you. Even when you step outside your comfort zone you shine with creativity. This card was very well thought out and executed. I can see the Spica pen even without enlarging it. Great job with this challenge. WTG. Enjoy the evening.

This is definitely spooky, Carol! I really like all the different images and textures you combined to make your scene. I do love Halloween cards, but have pretty much stop making them because I don't have anyone to send them to.
