WT378 Afternoon Tea Birthday

I made this card for my sister-in-law who will be celebrating her 79th birthday in a couple weeks. I wanted something with a "homespun" look for her card, so I dug into my much-loved (and hoarded) stash of Afternoon Tea dsp that's been long retired.I punched 1-1/4" squares of the dsp, and randomly adhered them to a scrap, then cut it with a Top Note die, and finally embossed it with a Sizzix Snow Globe ef to give it that quilted look. I added a piece of Groovy Guava ribbon and a layered flower done with a 5-petal punch and a smaller Carl punch. The pieces were embossed with the SU! square lattice ef, and layered with foam tape and finished with a button and some orange and white twine. The sentiment panel was done with the SNSS birthday stamp set, and the background dsp is a piece of Soft Sky dsp. I entered this into the SCS WT378 challenge today to create a banner on your card.

Here's a similar card that I made for a customer recently using more SU! retired dsp's called Parisian Breeze. For this one I used 1" squares and this one looks more balanced to me with the smaller squares. I put this on a soft stone card base, and used chocolate chip ink for the Northwoods sentiment. I used the same embossing folders and punches for both cards.

It looks like storms are heading our way, so I'm going to wrap this up and prepare to shut this computer down for a while. Thanks for stopping by!

Carol

What fabulous cards, Carol. I love that paper on the first one. I don't have it but I do still have some Parisian Breeze. It is one of my favorite papers because of the texture.

Hope you weather the storms o.k. Our last storms were Sunday night, Monday a.m. What a lightning show we had!! Yep, I shut my puter off and unplugged, too.

Both are beautiful (par for the course {grin}), but I'm partial to the one with the blues.... it's interesting how changing the colors and the block sizes impacts the appearance!
