Masculine Birthday Card

I'm pulling older supplies from my stash and having fun with them.
I found a half-used pad of Black Magic cardstock if anyone remembers that gem from years gone by? It's heavy black cardstock on one side with pastel colors on the other side. If you emboss and then sand it, those pastel colors magically appear on the black side. I found one piece that was white on the reverse side so I embossed that side with a CB diamond plate EF and lightly  swiped an ink pad of Brilliance Platinum Planet ink over it to add a touch of shimmery glow to the raised portions of the embossing.  Next I took a piece of that same cardstock and flipped it to the black side, cutting it with a Gina Marie Designs Venetian label, embossed it with the same EF, then sanded it to show the off-white colors. I die cut the GMD Birthday sentiment with gold mirror card and added the small deer head done with a DiesRUs die and a snippet of light brown cardstock.

I'll share this with the Male Room Challenge #185 - embossing

Thanks for stopping by and make it a great day!

  5. You always know so well how making clean but very interesting masculine cards with only a touch or two, Carol!! This is totally out of my ability and I so admire your skills! This card is just PERFECT! Great idea cutting that embossed Black Magic cardstock twice and use the reverse side to make the label for the sentiment, raising the embossing and matching the pattern, wow!! The platinum ink on the white coordinates all together and the gold of the deer and the sentiment pop very well from the design! You deserve a big bow! :)
Your virtual big hugs have arrived and warmed my heart :) I return with as many big hugs and love! :) Have a wonderful day, dear friend!!

  6. A perfect colour palette and design for a masculine card Carol. Sanding the embossed panel reminds me it's something I've not don in so long, yet I have a pile of years old coordinations.

  8. Wonderful masculine card, Carol. I think I still have some of this card from many years ago. Your card would be perfect for the current Crafty Calendar Challenge where the theme is ‘Embossing, wet or dry’. http://craftycalendarchallenge.blogspot.com/

  12. Oh yes! I still have some of that "Coordinations" sandable paper in my stash and I never remember to pull it out! I have a pkg of multi-color, but I think I've only got one black 12x12 left in it. Oh, the stuff we keep! LOL Your card is fantastic for a masculine design, and I especially love that textured background! I love it with that die cut deer head too! Thanks for always inspiring me, Carol!

  14. It sounds like you're having a blast rediscovering your older supplies! The Black Magic cardstock technique sounds intriguing, especially with the embossing and sanding to reveal those hidden colors. The result with the Venetian label and gold mirror card sentiment must look absolutely stunning. Can't wait to see more of your creative projects with these gems from the past!
