Hello and happy April Fool's day! Darnell over at djkardkreations is having a card boo boo hop in celebration of April Fool's Day! I usually repair or remake my card boo boos, but in this case there was nothing I could do to fix this. I just sat back, scratched my head and laughed.
WHAT?!?!?!
I pulled out some older SU! stamps and decided to create my own background to showcase this big sentiment. I stamped pastel green leaves and coral flower elements, then added that bold sentiment. I trimmed the panel on one side so I could add some wide ribbon.
Have you ever seen that little sign that reads "think ahead" where the last few letters of the word 'ahead' are squeezed down the edge because you didn't really think ahead before writing your letters? Well this card is a perfect example of that. I'm making a mental note - the next time I decide to trim a panel, trim the correct side so the sentiment won't be too close to the edge where the ribbon nearly covers it! DUH! Even those 3 black pearls couldn't bring things back together into inky balance! LOL I'd have trashed this, but I spent so darned much time on it - I finished it and just tossed it into the box. It turned out to be just perfect for Darnell's April Fools Day Boo Boo Hop, so that's where this epic fail is headed :)

Yes, we have all done that sort of thing. You are right in saying that all you can do is laugh about it and mark it up to experience (not that it stops me repeating the mistake, because I do). Thanks for the giggle. Happy April Fool's Day! Hazel xx

ReplyDeleteI can so RELAte, Carol!! Both to doing that same thing and to being so darn mad cuz I'd spent a lot of time on the card and made the perfect bow! I go ahead and send those cards to my sweet "more experienced" (ancient) ladies who won't notice. (You know, like me! lol!)
ReplyDeleteJust for future reference, please note on page 1127 of the Card Artist Handbook, there is an exception under (c)(5)(ii)(y) that reads: "As card artists, we often forget that there are left-handed (and, therefore, left-brained) people in the world. For those people, and ONLY for those people, it is acceptable to attach a border ribbon and bow to the right-hand side of the card front." Cool to know, huh?

Had you not mentioned the boo-boo, I'd not have noticed anything beyond a wonderful stamped background, a marvelous sentiment and a pretty bow! I often have similar issues with sentiment-and-other-thing placement...with shadows being cast when I try to take photos. I think your oopsie is actually quite awesome!

I do that all the time! And sometimes I trim crooked so I have to trim some more, and more, and more.....Sometimes it becomes a tag!

ReplyDeleteThat's why those construction guys say measure twice, cut once. I'm in the school of measure never, cut once and swear. I totally forgot about Darnell's boo boo day. I didn't have the card for mine anymore, but I had the story. I had planned to make a similar themed card to fit the story but that didn't happen. I got distracted. Anyway, my story was a mermaid card, she was topless, she was a cartoonish line figure so no biggie... unless apparently you are my friends. Then it was a BIG FREAKING DEAL. I was (and still am) shocked.

I always blame my trimmer and/or my eyesight when the cutting goes wrong! LOL I have both the sets you used and am now inspired to get them out to use! :-)

Well your little boo boo isn't that noticeable Carol and it is still a beautiful card. So I'm glad you didn't trash it, someone is gonna love getting this one my friend. I've had much worse fails, just never documented any of them and haven't made much for 2016. Will keep this cute little challenge in mind for when I'm making something. lol Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteArgh...how many times have I done the same exact thing?! I've done that with my stamped sentiments on card fronts, on banners, on tags, and on die cut shapes. Most of the time I'm able to save it by re-trimming and mounting it on a larger piece of card stock as a frame, but sometimes it's just a lost cause. Yours isn't anywhere as bad as some of mine have been....and I'll bet that no one would be the wiser if you just went ahead and sent it!

ReplyDeleteHi Carol, nice card.... yep I've done that, trimmed the wrong side or thought one side wasn't straight enough and then you end up trimming all the sides and welllla it's small and there's more of a border. Enjoy your weekend Robyn

I guess we've all been there. After some really careful thinking and planning, we sometimes manage to ruin everything (especially in our own eyes) by doing one last 'quick' thing, like cutting to size or stamping the sentiment. Personally, I'm grateful for my MISTI, which allows me to stamp my sentiment several times without shifting.

ReplyDeleteI had to read the full text of the post right through to see anything wrong with it at all, and I think it is just so beautiful and striking that anybody looking at it would think the layout was deliberate and you had made a really clever use od space on the right to showcase that beautiful stamping. It's a gorgeous card!

I just did this this morning. Spent a while last night getting my stuff together and all I had to do this morning was glue it down and darn, if it didn't just stray too much to one side. So I totally understand where you're coming from, though I have to say that this is not as bad as you think - maybe add a small strip of coordinating paper as a stripe down the right side to center the sentiment. Wish I could've done that on mine.
