OWH Tutorial & Mid-week Throwdown

I made this card by following Julie's tutorial here on OWH. I never would have thought to make a flag from ribbons, but I love how it turned out. I worked in flag manufacturing for 23 years, so I had to add some extra detail, like the white band and grommets :) The tiny stars are from the SNSS star border die and I adhered them to the ribbon by dotting glue with a toothpick. The top decoration on the flagpole was done with gold embossed cardstock and an EK Fleur de lis punch. It had just the perfect shape I was looking for. I embossed the panels with CB folders and cut the U.S.A. letters with my Quickutz. If this didn't take so much time, I'd make a slew of them, because I love how it turned out! Thanks for the fun idea Julie!

I made this for the OWH mid-week throwdown to use opposites on the color wheel. My sweet friend Mary Anne gave me this cool dsp when I was at her house on Monday, so I chose blue & orange for my opposites. I used a pre-colored image and added some ribbon tabs, and a fun clip on the side. The border was punched with a MS arch lattice. I love how quickly a pre-colored image can pull a card together!

That's it for me today - wicked storms are heading our way soon! Take care and make it a great day!

Not only do I adore your use of ribbons on the flag card, I love the way you embossed on white using two different folders. So clever!

And your color choices, patterns, coloring, and embellishments on this second card have resulted in such a cute little card.

Hope the storms aren't too bad. Thanks so much for participating in this week's Midweek Throwdown challenge!

  16. Carol, this is just about the coolest card I've ever seen. What a wonderful idea and so patriotic. I LOVE it so much.

Take cover with the storms. Hope they pass quickly. Bad news...my dil's parents house was hit by lightning on Monday and burned..total loss. They arrived home, opened the garage door and smoke was pouring out. Sad, sad.
