Turning 30

We have a great neighbor who always helps us out with shoveling snow and lawn care, so we wanted to do something to help him celebrate his 30th birthday. I made this card by using Spellbinders sprockets dies with some silver and red mirror cardstock. The background was done with a SB M-bossabilities Kickin' Rubber folder, and I sponged the gray cardstock with some pumice stone ink to show a little weathering. I added a panel of silver shimmer paper embossed with a diamond plate ef to add another masculine touch to the card. The sentiment is by LOTV and the numbers were cut with my Quickutz and layered with a Quickutz bottlecap diecut and a SU! punch.

I made him a little "birthday cake" out of lollipops and 30 dollar bill leaves. I used 2 different sizes of circle foam from the craft store, and wound the folded dollar bills around the pops with floral tape. I tied each pop with some blue ribbon, and hot glued each one into the foam layers, adding some Easter grass to fill in the spaces. The medallion was made with 2 SB lotus die cuts with a wooden bbq skewer attached between the centers. I added some numbers to the center, and a white-embossed stamped sentiment beneath the numbers. I added some SNSS die cut scalloped borders around the cake layers, and added some tiny white stars left over from a previous cutting. I hot glued a store-bought white doily to a plastic luncheon plate, and then hot glued the styrofoam "cake" to the doily before popping this into a little hand-made box.

This cake was a big hit, so it was well worth all the time it took to put it together!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your week is going well!

Carol

Carol what a wonderful gift for your neighbour. So much thought has gone into this. It's a great idea and the card is a great one for a male. I'm sure he was amused by the clever sentiment. By the way I really like the background embossing folder. Not seen that one before. Wishing you a very Happy Easter. Barbxx

Oh WOW! Carol, I love the card and that cool embossing - but the cake "takes the cake"! Outstanding and what a cute and creative idea. Perfect sentiment with the pops too. I know he loved it - and not just the money either!
