Time Flies

I have a snarky birthday card today that makes use of some very unattractive dsp (in my opinion). It's got big alphabet letters in white on a black background and I had no clue what to do with it, so I took the challenge at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers SOSS#40 "U is for ugly" and made a card with it. Of course I covered up most of it, but at least I used it! Ha! I hate to call anything "ugly", so I'll just say I don't find it appealing :)
The old time telephones were done with a Studio Calico stamp set and I heat-embossed one in gold while adding paint pen gold accents to the other. I cut the panels with Lil Inker stitched rectangles and tucked them behind a gold embossed panel with a snarky sentiment borrowed from my friend Mary Anne. I added 3 matching mini brads for the final touch.

I'm also sharing this at the Cards in Envy challenge which is to make a birthday card (A2 size with no bulky embellishments) as well as the Snippets Playground #189 (use snippets).

Thanks for stopping by and have yourself a fabulous Monday!

Carol

Where you thinking of me this morning when you made this card? LOL While splitting woods we were both saying we remembered when we could do this for hours on end, now it is 2 hours at the most. You made good use of the paper you don't care for by hiding most of it behind all the good parts of the card. Have a fun day.

Great card. I had a chuckle at you covering up the 'unappealing paper'. :-) xx

Fab card Carol! I agree the best thing to do with some underappreciated paper is cover it up!
Thanks for joining the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers for our "U is for Ugly" challenge!!

A very smart way to use *unappealing* paper — covering most of it up! You ended up with a perfectly fine card, and I like the snark factor! Thanks for joining the fun at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers.

I'm still looking for ugly paper. I agree ... I don't think I have any, just stuff that I wouldn't buy on purpose. I like your idea of covering it up. Now I might even have an idea. Wheee! Thanks! :) (It's all about me, you know.)

Hi Carol,
what a great card.
Lovely design, and a wonderful sentiment too.
Great older telephone stamps used as well.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

Well hidden there! I do so like the sentiment and the old fashioned telephone - I hate to admit but my very first job as an office junior included operating an ancient switchboard, with a telephone just like that one! You just brought a few memories back here - I had nightmares about that switchboard!!

What a great card you made here. Nice layout and a really creative way to use difficult to use paper. BUT...the card is NOT UGLY!
great colors, and I love that sentiment!

The background paper looks great with the different layers and elements you used! I love it! So much for hating something. LOL Thanks for sharing this with us at Cards in Envy!

I have to admit that your writeup about this card made me chuckle. You've definitely made the best of that paper, Carol - and believe me, I've seen much worse stuff! The font of the letters works well with the vintage phone images. Thanks for sharing your delightfully snarky birthday card with us at Cards in Envy! :)

Hi Carol! No matter how hard you try to convince us that your background paper is ugly it's not working, lol! Sure, it's tricky, but you made it work with the vintage telephones! The hilarious sentiment caught me by surprise and I'm still laughing! Thanks for joining in the fun at Cards In Envy!

I agree with Donna, only I think you made this card for me, lol. Great job covering up the background paper. Just enough shows that it actually looks good with the rest of the elements of your card. Hope your week is going great!

Great job covering up that unappealing paper. Great card too! That greeting is a scream. Some of my younger coworkers were recently overheard saying that they can't stay out past 11 pm anymore. I'm like, "That's TWO HOURS after my bedtime!"

You've really turned that ugliness on its head and come up with a stunning card. I think if I'd had that paper the only thing I could have thought of to use it would be to fussy-cut all the letters and use them to build words with
