OWH Sketch #222

Here's this week's OWH sketch #222  which was inspired by my sweet friend Donna who made this card back in February.

\

I had every good intention of following the sketch to the letter, so I started off by embossing a whole A2 panel with the hexagons, and then placed snippets of coordinating dsp into the embossed sections to create a quilt-like pattern. All was fine until I placed that panel into the paper cutter and cut it on the wrong diagonal! No matter how I placed or turned it, there was no way it was going to follow the sketch, so I gave in and just finished the card as if it's a mirror image! LOL I'm happy with the way it came out and I'm sure it will get used even if I can't properly follow a sketch! Of course when you make a whole panel and cut it, there's another piece left over to make a 2nd card, so I made another one slightly different from the first.

For this one, I put the brads in the center of the 1/2" strip like Donna's card, and put the sentiment on the bottom. I embossed the strip with a Decorative Dots ef, and the sentiment is by CASual Friday Stamps, done in midnight muse ink.

Since I used so many snippets of dsp, I'm also taking this one over to the Snippets Playground #122.

That's a great card for inspiration Donna, and thanks to OWH for making a sketch out of it!

Happy Sunday everyone! Thanks for stopping by!

Carol

What gorgeous cards. I love the softness of the paper on one half and your enormous effort to hand cut all those hexagons really pays off because this half of the card compliments the paper half perfectly. I think it looks great going in this direction. I like the brads in both cards and I love that your sentiment fits just right in your hexagon. I adore both of these cards, Carol. Thank you for your kind words today and always. You are a sweetie. Have a great day. I did get to watch the end of the race this morning, it was great - lots of excitement.

I know exactly how you feel about cutting a diagonal the wrong way. Ruins your whole day doesn't it? However, you made two beautiful cards. I love the subtle polka dots in the background. Have a great day!

Woweeeeeeee! Carol -- this card cam out fabulous! I love how you created all the fabulous details in the 'hexagon' side of the card!! I cheated and used some Patterned Paper that had a mini hexagon pattern.

Oh, but I can totally relate to have the panels reversed, or I should say, cutting the right side incorrectly, which is what I did. I had to flip over that piece and use it as a template for my card. I never was one who did well in Geometry...that's about the time, I switched over to Business courses and went with Accounting instead!! LOL!

Fantastic card...love love love how this turned out! :)

Your cards and Donna's are both super. Sometimes, things just don't work as planned. Ha I'm sure you know that. But, in the end, you have two great cards.

They are both great, Carol! A perfect example of how to use a sketch merely as a jumping-off point!! Hugs, Darnell

Two great cards Carol! Reading your post I could see what was coming :) Think we've all done that more than once - but a happy accident which produced two really super results. LOVE the colours and just how perfectly neat everything is, including those hexagons, which aren't easy!

Hugs, Di xx

I'm awed by your patience in cutting & piecing all these tiny hexagons, but it sure is a pretty look. Very quilty looking indeed. Liked both the cards, and had a chuckle at your 'wrong cutting'. I do that very thing every time I try for a diagonal placement on a card. Both of these cards are just gorgeous, and you did interpret the challenge very well. Your design is perfect! TFS & Hugs (oh yeah, liked all the colors & textures too. It did make me feel like pulling up the covers - if it wasn't so warm this evening!) LOL

You are too funny Carol! You followed the sketch, you just flipped it! A sketch is just to inspire you, you don't have to follow it exactly. But I think you did follow it exactly except you flipped it. Both cards are just gorgeous!! I love the colors and just may have to lift this one from you. lol Now stop being so hard on yourself with sketches. I am a mother of a Hero and I know they love all the cards that come through!! Hugs

Love, love the hexagons! I just may have to CASE it with some hexagon patterned paper I have. I also like the placement of the brads too. Hope you are having a great day!

Did you cut out all the patterned yourself? That's a lot of work! Your two cards look good! And yes, when cutting on the diagonal, make sure the slant is going the right way. You did my favorite trick! I like that you just called it a mirrored image instead. Great card, btw.
