VCMP continued....

I have a couple more cards to share with you for the NSD VCMP over at OWH. {what would we do without abbreviations these days?} Here's sketch challenge #171 which also happens to be the 5th challenge.

I've been hanging onto a big stack of dsp by Recollections that I bought last year and have struggled to create with it. The cover on the package contained  bright and colorful patterns & designs, but the paper inside was much darker, dreary and unattractive, so I put it aside until today. I was inspired by this post from JoAnn Ross where she used a darker dsp on her card, so I opted to pull this paper out and finally work with it. I had a scrap of light teal card stock on my table, and it brightened the paper up a bit. Then I tried to match the rose in the center panel, and raspberry ripple was as close a match as I could find, so this card came together pretty quickly once I decided on the colors to use. The circle panel was done with a SU! Round Array stamp, and the sentiment is by CASual Fridays.

Here's my card for the 6th challenge hosted by Julie, where she wants us to use one of our own personal photographs and make a card with it. For the most part, I only take photos of the cards I make, but I found this one in my files that I took last August. We'd just lost a cherished and dear neighbor to a horrible accident at home, and the following day as I was walking up the walk to our front door, I spotted this flower blooming from the trunk of our Rose of Sharon tree which is in our front yard. The tree had already lost most of it's blooms, but this bright pink blossom suddenly appeared out of nowhere, so we took that as an omen that our neighbor was somehow letting us know he was ok. It was so strange to see a full bloom growing from the base of the tree trunk, so I grabbed my camera and took a picture. I wish I had a tiny sentiment that says "bloom" but I settled for "hello" from the SU! teeny tiny wishes stamp set and attached the jewel tag with black twine. The picture looks a bit grainy because I printed it on card stock instead of photo paper.

My two favorite drivers were just knocked out of the NASCAR race at Talladega in a huge wreck, so I might get to work on the final VCMP challenge after it's posted :)

Thanks for stopping by!!

Carol

What a sweet story, Carol, and your photo card turned out beautiful. Love that twine across the bottom. Thanks for playing along in my OWH VCMP challenge!

The first card came out very nice. The paper doesn't look the least bit drab or dreary, especially because you backed it with that lovely blue and the Raspberry Ripple. Wow, that flower surely was a sign to you and the rest of your neighborhood. The pink tag matches the flower perfectly. I just got in from outside, but did see a recap of the wreck. I hope that was the BIG one for today and nothing happens that is any worse. (if they do start to race again). Enjoy your evening.

Dreary? Never! Love what you did with the sketch, and the card you made with that beautiful bloom, was a perfect idea. Sorry about the race... we just got home from some chores and I see it is back on. I have these 2 challenges completed, but I will post in the morning.

Hi Carol! I know what you mean about those Recollections pads! Your card came out really nice, however, so you certainly conquered the challenge. Love the photo card and I think the story behind it is so touching.

Ah yes the dreaded paper pads that are never quite what you imagined :) I think you created a great card with it though-- way to work with supplies that didn't excite you :)

I saw your inlinkz and was immediately drawn to the sketch card...wonderful colors/patterns. Love the photo card as well; the graininess adds to the arty feel! tfs!!!

Beautiful cards as always Carol. Love what you did with the sketch. The papers you used don't seem dark since they are in small pieces. The story of your Rose will warm any hero's heart.

Very pretty card, Carol. Your paper looks great but it is aggravating when the inside is not what you were thinking.

That was a very unusual place for a bloom and I'm glad it gave some comfort.

Sorry about your favorite Nascar drivers getting knocked out of the race. I know that's a bummer!

The teal paper really brought that other paper into a happy spot! I never think of matting my papers with a lighter shade but I certainly will from now on.

What a lovely story about the bloom in your picture! Thanks for sharing!

I have the same dark paper stack & it's really hard to match it up, like the colors aren't true. TY for giving ME ideas on how to use it!!
