A Holiday Challenge and New Technique

There's a blog named Happily Ever Crafter where Ted is running a challenge to use the colors found in the Operation Write Home logo which are red, white, blue & gold. He's doing this as a salute to Armed Forces Day which was on May 21st, and he's also dedicating this challenge to OWH to bring recognition to this organization for their outstanding efforts in sending hand-made greeting cards to our military serving all over the world. Click the link above to go to Ted's blog and get all the details of the challenge. My card is very basic and will be going into my next OWH box.
This card is for the MTW found on the Stars & Stamps blog. This week's challenge is to use a new technique that you haven't tried before. I'm doing the black magic technique which I'm sure I tried many years ago, but it's been ages since I've done it, so it's like a new technique to me. I stamped the Flourishes image on black card stock using white craft ink. I embossed the image with white ep and colored it with Prisma colored pencils. You can also use chalk with this technique to color your image. I cut the image out with a beaded ovals die, and embossed the background piece with a Tim Holtz damask ef, lightly sanding afterward. For the final touch I wove a piece of taffeta ribbon through the holes on the bottom and popped the image up on dimensionals. I'll leave the sentiment off of this one so it can be used for any occasion.
Thanks for stopping by folks! I'll be back again soon :)

Hi Carol, I love both of your card. I'll stop by Happily Ever crafter tonight. Your card for them is simple, yet beautiful. Your new technque card came out gorgeous. I love the colors of those flowers and, of course, great coloring. I just got that Nestie set in last week. I ordered it because you make it look so nice when you insert the ribbon like that. Thanks you for another great idea for me to copy. I have to think of something I haven't tried before or at least in years. Talk to you soon.

Oooo, I love the black and blue together! I have used lots of embossing folders on my projects but have rarely (read never) tried sanding them. Hmmm, inspiration from you to make a card for this week's OWH Mid-Week Throwdown. Thanks heaps!

These both turned out great! That 'black magic' technique is new to me and the result is striking. Thanks for passing along how you did it. I'm going to add it to my 'must try' list!
