Tuesday Flourishes Challenge FTTC20

Good Morning! I made this card for my Dad, for Father's Day. Dad passed away in 2004, but he's always with me...I look in the mirror and see him in my face. He's in my heart and etched deep in my soul. I saw the challenge today and thought of the Poppy set, from Flourishes, that I had just bought from Michelle Rodgers at Stampers Dream. I have never made a distressed "old fashioned" card before, but I wanted to include some personal things, for Dad. You see, he hoarded papers, all kinds, and doo dads too. Mom and I have been sorting now for years, and I used a ledger sheet he had saved, along with a little button, probably from a garment that my Mom must have owned long ago. When we go to Northern Wisconsin, for our family vacation, this summer, the card will be placed in the lake, where Dad's ashes were spread. I always bring his card up and "give" it to him, even though it's months late. Until we go, I'll leave it on our mantel, for us to enjoy. Oh! That picture is me, at 7 months old, taken in the old cabin. He'll enjoy that!

I used SU Kraft cardstock for the base, some random DP I had laying around. The cool frame is from my buddy Carol (I love ya!) as well as the clip. The image is colored with only 3 tombow markers and a brush. I distressed it with Tim Holtz Cordorouy ink. The saying is from SU (thanks Deanna!).

Hope you all have a magnificent day! My heart is light and happy, thinking of Dad always makes me feel that way!

OOPS! I was suppose to mention the poster that inspired this card...here it is!

What a lovely tradition to remember your Dad in such a beautiful way. Your card is just wonderful with all the little memories added to it. My husband passed away in 2004 also and I think my 2 adult children would love your idea to be passed on to them. TFS. Pat

I am so taken with this card and that wonderful story, Heidi. To think your wonderful creativity is so enhanced by momentos from your dad's and mom's lives is so precious. Leaving it on your mantle is such a thoughtful way to remind the great man your dad must have been. To personally bring it to him each summer must make those now heavenly eyes sparkle! Just incredibly gorgeous and wonderfully sentimental.
Oh, how can you even think about walking away from such a God-given talent as this, heidi.

Oh my gosh! With all these stunning cards on this challenge - I'm thinking I need to check out Kim's posters and give this one a try!! Your card is just beautiful -- both in the way you did it and the meaning behind it. My dad passed away five years ago and Dad's day is always hard for me. Maybe I need to follow in your footsteps and just embrace it -- knowing I can still make cards and honor him. Thank you so much for sharing this idea!!
